700 BDL Problem

A friend stopped by tonite to have me boresight a scope on his new 700 BDL. He mentioned that the bolt didn't feel right and asked what I thought. The bolt only closes about 3/4 of the way. It sticks almost straight out and doesn't cam shut the whole way while the chamber is empty. This gun is new and unfired. Has anyone experienced this? I loosened the action screws, but no help.

Alrighty then!

Yup, I'll bet that's it. He put them on himself. Thanks Stiffy

He's got the long screws for rear base in the front.

Re: 700 BDL Problem

I have seen a few Savage 110s with same problem, but
its the bottom stock screw being tightened to much and
protruding into chamber.

Re: 700 BDL Problem

Good Call. That will do it. Bolt Lugs hitting the longer screws.

I hope not!

Actually it protrudes in the lower lug recess and in some cases the rear screw in the front scope mount into the top recess. Also sometimes the front screw in the mount is too long and bottoms out on the barrel threads.

Scope mount screw lengths should always be checked BEFORE installation, Savage or otherwise. Don't assume just your using because XYZ company mount/screws they're the right length.
