Ruger 77 / 22 Mag

I had never owned a 77/22 until recently. I had a chance today to wring it out at my range and WOW! This little gun is putting 5 shots on a dime size target dot over and over. I have some pretty accurate .22's, but I am tickled with this little gem. Anyone else have the same reults?

I have the same gun with stainless barrel and laminate stock. Picked it up as a target and squirrel gun. It loves CCI Velocitors and keeps an awesome group out to 50 yards. Wasn't a cheap gun but it's certainly my favorite one in the safe.

I am still kicking myself for selling mine. Same results as yours. I just don't see myself spending that much on a 22 again

Re: Ruger 77 / 22 Mag

Shot one at our club some years ago and it's the only one I've ever handled. SS/Laminated stock, heavy barrel and IIRC, Leupold varmint scope?

The guy was having fits over it, because regardless of the ammo used, it wouldn't group to suit him. Trigger job, barrel floated and acion bedded. Forget how much $$$ he in it at that point, but he was extremely upset with it.

I fired one 5 shot group, rested @ 100 yards and recollect they went into about an inch? Asked him if he'd shot it much before he spent all that extra money on it and he said no, why would I?

Don't know about anyone else, but I shoot a "new" rifle a good bit, before I get too excited about monkeying with it? Now and then one shoots 'bout like it oughta, right from the get-go.

Ruger 77/22s and mags are great looking rifles, but to be honest, I've heard more complaints about their accuracy over the years, than I've heard guys excited about how well they shoot?

Re: Ruger 77 / 22 Mag

I heard similiar stories, but the price was good and its a stainless "paddle stock" which I have a liking for. I did not expect the results I got, but its a keeper. It shot older Winchester ammo a bit higher than new CCI, but the same great groups. I always remember though buying my first paddle stock Ruger to "beat up" on western trips, and I ended up loving it.

Re: Ruger 77 / 22 Mag

i've had the 77/22 in 22 rf for 22 years. i had a aftermarket adjustable trigger put in and a bushnell elite 4200 3-9x40 on a few years ago. it is boringly accurate. dime sized groups at 50 yards with cci hp's. its my squirrel gun. i would like to add a 22mag and 22 hornet in 77/22 one of these days.

That about sums it up. Can't hardly shoot 30 rounds out of it till it ain't no fun anymore. Almost need a target with about 50 different spots to aim for instead of the same hole!

Re: Ruger 77 / 22 Mag

i actually use the 25 ft airgun targets that have about 10 bulls on them about the size of a quarter. i like to take my time an shoot the black out of each one. i invariably get a flyer so i don't have a perfect target yet. when i do, i'm going to keep it.

Is that at a hundred yards?

I have one of the SS HB 77/22 mags. Mine averages around 1.25 inches for 5 shots with the older WW 40 gr. rounds. Some of the newer stuff is averaging around 1 inch.
