laminated stock staining

I have a marlin 22 mag with a lamnated wood stock that looks like it is just clearcoated, could I sand off all the clear and then stain it with a green stain and re- clear to give it a camo laminated look? Thanks!

What color is the laminations now???

I know some are dyed and might not take stain...and all the glue is another question....

Id try it under the butt plate and see what it does if i wanted to know...

The worst thing that can happen is that you end up not liking it and painting it.

I stained one of my laminate stocks with "ebony" stain. Put a satin sealer on top. It turned out really nice. Try a little area inside the barrel channel to see if you like it first.
