270 ammo question

I just inherited a remington 760 pump win 270 caliber. The ammo that came with it I have never seen or heard. The box says win 270 win 130gr bronze point. My questions are a: is it leagal to use? And b are they good for bear and deer?

Re: 270 ammo question

The Remington Bronze point was the original tipped spitzer before anyone ever dreamed of the poly-plastic tips you see today. They are one of the best factory bullets ever made. They were advertised as a long range bullet that would not suffer tip deformation in the magazine, and they performed exactly as advertised. Today they are somewhat of a collectors item, but very good to use on deer. I would personally not try them on bear, but I am sure they would kill one.

Re: 270 ammo question

Yep, what Joe said. I would try some 150gr partitions for bear.

Re: 270 ammo question

For what it's woth my gun (same as yours) likes the regular 130 grain core locks. Darn thing shoots like a target rifle with them. Not so much with anything else. I tried several factory loads and handloads, and I just came to the conclusion that if I can't hunt with the remington green box I have to use a different rifle.

As far as the loads you have...I would save them.

Re: 270 ammo question

I'd go with the Corelokts or Powerpoints for bear... JMO...
