12 12g WS-1

I have been trying to research a Winchester I just inherited and have run into the issue of the poly choke. The gun has the WS-1 marking, so I am assuming the choke is not original? Everything appears to be original but the choke. Is this gun really worthless because of the choke? Any guidance would be much appreciated.

It has a 26" barrel and vent rib. Matching serial numbers which come up as 1950 for the manufacture date.

Re: 12 12g WS-1

That looks like a factory installed choke and the barrel has been cut back to accept the installation and to eliminate whatever the factory choke was. The gun is not worthless in the slightest. I would be happy and proud to have it in my collection. The bluing looks very nice, the wood and recoil pad look good too. Are they original?

Good night Chesty, wherever you are......

The pad and poly choke are non-original....darn shame somebody had to make a hunting gun out of a skeet....

Gun is not worthless but has no collector value....

Re: 12 12g WS-1

Originally your gun was choked Skeet 1, or WS 1. Someone cut the barrel and added the polychoke to make the gun usable at greater distances.( Skeet 1 would make the pattern useless past 30 yards ) Although its collector status is ruined by the polychoke, its far from wothless. Once you get past the way a polychoke looks, you see that it really works !

Had a friend had one WAY worn, and sans polychoke, but fit me like a glove. Still want that gun - got away when he died. Hunt it, love it.
