help with sighting rifle please

purchaes a remington 30-06 used. Has a Leopold 3x9 scope. Last year went to sight it in and shots were off the paper to the left. Dialed the scope all the way over and got the shots about 4 inches to the left. Elevation is good. So i sent it to Leopold to be fixed, I tried to sight it in yesterday with the same result...the scope is dialed all the way over and I am still 4 inches off!! What could the problem be? My shots were consistant...the gouping was with-in 2.5 inches off to the left ,i do not have a vise but used sandbags on a bench. Is it the rifling? The loads? The scope? or Me? This is the first time I have sighted a rifle however I also sighted-in a 22mag that I just got and had no problem...so I think I know what I am doing. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Re: help with sighting rifle please

first thing I would do is take the scope out of the rings and make sure the base or bases are tight.

I would also check the rings and bases. I had the same thing happen to me but i was shooting high. Ended up the previous owner put 2 different bases on. Also, I had a Rem 30-06 that was very inconsistent with the tall rings that you can shoot the iron sights through. The vibration was too much for the rings to handle. I put on new rings and shot great. Good luck. Have someone boresight it for you too.

Also check screws that hold the gun to the stock.

If everything is tight then a set of windage adjustable bases would be my next option.

Re: help with sighting rifle please

Had the same problem. Turned out to be drilled & tapped crooked. Ended up using a combo of burris windage adj. bases and their signature rings with the offset plastic inserts to align it with the barrel.

Everything is controlled by a small evil group to which, unfortunately, no one we know belongs.

Re: help with sighting rifle please

What kind of rear base does the rifle have now? What kind of rifle is it? It is either drilled and tapped of center or you already have a redfield type rear base that is windage adjustable but not being used.
