Antique Remington 22 Single Shot ID?

I have this old Remington 22 Single shot that has been in the bottom of my safe for years and was wondering if anyone has any idea what it really is and if it has any worth.
I'm thinking it's a Mod. 4, but not sure, the only markings on it is "patented July 22, 1902" and Remington Arms Co., nothing else.
I would hate to see it just sit around if it is of some value and would like to see someone get this that would be able to fix it up and appreciate it.
Let me know if you know what this is. Thanks!

I think you have a Model 6 takedown there, a rare little bird ! Should have a 20 inch barrel. They stopped making them in the early 1930's. $250 for a rough one $500 for a nice one.

Yup Model 6, I have my Grandads in the gun Cabinet.

I think the model 4's had octagonal barrels

thats definitly an oldie but goodie. you could write to remington and ask them about your rifle. i wouldnt get rid of it just because its not being used. wouldnt redo anything on it before getting the history on it.

Shorts in early production, longs and LR's near the end. Shorts only being the most valueable.

Re: Antique Remington 22 Single Shot ID?

My dad had a very similar gun. If memory serves me right it was labled as a trapper gun. It was the first gun I ever shot. My grandfather had to put a new firing pin in it as it had a tendancy not to fire.

My cousin now owns it, and it probably hasn't seen the light of day in around 25 years.

That gun was chambered for 22 short. Don't even try anything else in it as it won't work as longs and lr's won't head space on the rim.

Re: Antique Remington 22 Single Shot ID?

Thanks guys for the info. Not sure what I'm going to do with it right now. It does not have any history with my family except it was given to my father to pay a small debt when I was but a thought. Don't think my father ever even used it.

There is your family history, given to your dad by someone to pay a debt. It was your dad's rifle.
