Colt 45

I was just wondering if anyone had an idea of what one of these can go for. Got it form my grandfather and it has been shot but I am not sure how much. Nickel plated Government Model Colt 45.
Thanks for the info.

$950 min and as high as $2200, theres 49 right now for sale on gun broker, the high end ones dont have bids on them but some do from 950 to 1500, yours should fall in there some where.

Re: Colt 45

That's a nice weapon! Would love to have one myself, but just purchased a motorcycle. I won't be buying anything else fun this year.

Re: Colt 45

IIRC, Series 70 pistols command a slightly higher price than Series 80 and later ones? Some jibberish about the internals relative to the trigger/sear/safety, if not mistaken?

On the other hand, "my" personal 1911 fanatic buddy discounts all that stuff, as irrelevant?

Re: Colt 45

There is no such actual round as the .45 long Colt. The true name is the .45 Colt, that is what you will find on the box. The .45 Schofield made by S&W had a shorter cartridge than the .45 Colt. It is alleged Billy the Kid carried a Schofield People started calling them .45 long and short when they went to buy ammo. You can use .45 Schofield in a .45 Colt gun in a pinch, but you cannot fire a .45 Colt round in a .45 Schofield gun.
