Barnes TSX 85 Grain Question

Looking for some of 'yinzers' that may have experience using the 85 grain TSX bullet out of the 243.

My oldest son (8yrs old) loves to shoot and has enjoyed shooting his 22 cricket and the CVA wolf inline with 55 grains as well as a Rossi 410. He desires to deer hunt this year in the mentor program and I was thinking of using the above mentioned bullet.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts and opinions.

Re: Barnes TSX 85 Grain Question

I used that same bullet in 223 55gr configuration to harvest a doe last year. 70 yards through both lungs and the heart she ran 20 yards and expired. lots and lots of blood loss and a great wound cavity

Re: Barnes TSX 85 Grain Question

Those Barnes bullets are the ticket for high velocity rounds. They hold together and penetrate well, while giving a good deal of tissue destruction as well.

I think I'm an alright guy, I think I'm alright

Re: Barnes TSX 85 Grain Question

This dandy Dakota buck was toppled way out there at approx 275 yards or so with my .243 rifle. I've had good luck with 95 grain Ballistic Tips.

Shoot it out of my 243. Devastating results. They are a excellent choice.

Re: Barnes TSX 85 Grain Question

Never tried the TSX out of my 243. But I do know the Nosler Partition 95 grain out of my remmy 700 puts them down.
