Your first deer rifle

I did this same post a few years ago, but thought I would bring it back for all the new members. If nothing else it gives us something to talk about So what was your first deer rifle??

I started hunting deer with a Marlin 336C in 35 Remington. Still have it and still occasionally take it for a walk.

Mine was a Winchester Model 88 .308. Killed my first buck with it. I still occasionally take her for a walk in the woods!

Marlin 336C in 35 remington. A PA deer rifle classic. Many a deer has fallen from that gun! Amazing how one look at a gun brings back so many memories.

Ruger 77 Ultralight tang safety .308. Thumps your shoulder harder than my .375 H&H, no joke!

Savage Model 99 .250-3000
Boy I wish I still had it. Wanted a 760 like
Larry Benoit and I bugged the Old Man enough that
he got me one for Christmas. Best present I ever
got, but I wish I still had that Model 99.

Re: Your first deer rifle

A custom '98 in 8x57. When I was 11 my uncle grabbed me by the short hairs, marched me over to the gun rack in his shop and said pick one. The '98 was the "purdyest" one there.

Its funny, here I am 53 years later saying the same thing to my grandsons, "Pick one"!

BONZy, I've been looking for one too.
The 06 seems to kick more every year!
If I find one I can't afford I'll let you know.

Re: Your first deer rifle

Mod 88 Winchester in .308, it has laid a lot of deer on the ground. This will be the first year I am not using it in 42 years. This year I am going to try my Marlin 45-70 government guide gun
