223 load for deer?

Anyone have a good deer load for a 223. My son is going to be using one this year and I was looking for a good deer load. I know that a 223 is on the light side for deer but seems to be a good fit for him. Thanks for the help!

See how the Win 64 gr powerpoint loads shoot. Stay away from "varmint" bullets, put the bullet where it needs to be and he'll be fine.

Here's a link to midwayusa. Any of these loads will work great for deer, if they shoot well in your gun. The only way to figure that out is to buy some and shoot them. If you handload, the barnes copper bullets, or the nosler partition are great choices.

I agree. Years ago before Nosler and Barnes had .224 bullets designed for deer sized game I used a handload with the Win 64 gr PP bullet. I killed a mature doe with it at about 60 yards. Downed her with one shot thru the chest cavity. The bullet left an exit wound about the size of a nickel. Performance was perfect!

Exactly! If you have a 1:12 twist anything over a 55gr prob will not stabalize well in the air and may even keyhole a target. Check intonthat before you waste the money.
