Question on a gun I bought?

The gun on the top is my old trusty Husqvarna 30-06 but the one on the bottom is a Husqvarna 30-06 I just got. It has a 20" barrel and an old Fajen stock. I can't figure out what type of wood it's made of though. Any thoughts?

Don't have a clue but it looks like it has some nice grain and figure to it.

Re: Question on a gun I bought?

On another site John Barsness has identified it as Bastogne walnut. I'm as happy as a pig in slop.

How do you know a pig is actually happy when it's immersed in slop....AND....exactly what kind of slop makes it the happiest....if in fact a pig can be happy?

Re: Question on a gun I bought?

I don't think it is Bastogne walnut..........

It looks like Black Walnut with good figure.........take a look at this blank, notice how it has the same checkerboard type grain that the stock in question has.......

We actually have a "happy pig" program? I didn't know that. Heck....I'll bet it's funded by the Federal Government. No wonder we are broke.

Well I'm not going to argue with John Barsness. He said he has seen Bastogne walnut with this grain before and he said another indicator is if the stock is rather heavy, which it is.
