questions and advice on a build

So i think Ive decided to build my own gun. Ive got a stevens model 200, chambered in 22-250. Is it possible to use this action and have a different chamber ? for example i was reccomended something in the 6.5 or someone else reccomended a 338 edge. is it possible to build something using this stevens action?

The 6.5s are possible. Not sure if the action is long enough for an Edge, and it would require a change of the bolt head also I believe. You can build most calibers with the Stevens action by changing the barrel and/or bolt head, as well as magazine box if you're looking to have a repeater.

Would a .308 stevens action be long enough for the edge?

i would suggest a savage action used as a single shot or a remington action used as a repeater for the edge. i could save you the trouble of building an Edge and you could buy mine.

Maybe I will just keep it the 22-250 for now and grab another stevens sometime.Still deciding. regardless I am going to get another stock and barrel for this as well as some other stuff to make this alot more accurate.

The best place to start if you're getting into custom Savage projects.

First of all your 200 action for the most part a shot action pre-98 Savage.

As it sets it be anything up to a 308 length cartridge with .47x" casehead with only a barrel swap. Your 22-250 mag will work as-is.

You can go to something with a .378", 17 Rem, 222,223 and etc with a bolthead, mag and extended front baffle.

No, you can't go to the Edge for a number of reasons.

I don't recommend you go with anything in the Improved configuration. Sometimes they can be tricky to get to feed from the staggered mags, very doable, but require some tweaking.

Your 200 will also have the 4.25" action screw spacing and a blind magazine attached to the action. If you decide to get a new stock you'll need to make sure you get one for a Savage or Stevens in that configuration.

There are also two different barrel thread diameters refereed to as the small and large shank. The small shank has a 1.055" diameter thread, the large 1.120", both are a 20 pitch. Your 200 has the smaller 1.055, so when buying barrel make sure you get the small shank.
