22lr or 22mag possibe Lever action

Would like opinions on what to buy. Looking at mostly target shooting, but will also be used for fall turkey and small game. I shoot lefty and my daughter shoots right, now my twins are to little yet so we will see. I am leaning toward a lever action so it would be a good gun for both left and right handed shooters. With the children I would like to get them used to shooting so that is one of the big reason for purchasing and I always wanted a nice little 22 with scope.

I know the mag will cost more to shoot, but i feel it would be a better all around caliber for what i am going to be using it for or should I be lookng at some other type of 22 (bolt, pump, etc.) any advice from past experiences will be appreciated

I had a Winchester 9422 and loved it! It's one of those guns that I wish I had never gotten rid of!

It's hard to go wrong with a Marlin 39A. They don't have a .22mag version, but with today's hyper-velocity .22Long Rifles you aren't really undergunned for small game out to beyond 100yds - which is often farther than most folks hunt small game like rabbits and squirrel.

If you have to track your game, then you aren't using a big enuff gun.

Having raised 4 daughters that all go to the range with me I would reccomend a Winchester 9422 or a Henry. I shoot lefty and have two daughters lefty and two righty. We never had any problems at all.

If turkey, fox, even 'yote are on your agenda I'd have to opt for the Magnum version of the 22 RF. If squirrels and small game and purely fun target shooting are the main quarry then go with the 22 LR RF version. Unless you get very lucky a bolt will likely shoot better then a lever. For a lever 22 RF go with a Marlin 39. Bolts...I'm a bit prejudiced; get a used Remington 581. Also know that a lever with a scope mounted seems a bit ...odd. A bolt is bred for a scope! JMHO. First rifle....always a 22 LR rimfire. Go up from there.

Take a look at the Savage Model 93 22 WMR series. They are built like a tank & tack drivers plus friendly on the wallet. No recoil with the 22 WMR so i would opt for it vs a 22lr. Bought a Savage 93FV 22 WMR last year & love it!
