1911

Guys I'm a Glock guy, but I've been kicking around buying a 1911 for a few years now and would like some input. I don't want a super duper top of the line competition pistol or a compact. Whats a descent one for the $$$$$? I've been thinking about Para. I'm going to a gun shop tomorrow to handle a few. Hows the R1 and the Springfields? Any others I should consider? Thanks!

Who is John Galt?

Nothing like a good bird dog and a fine shotgun.

Re: 1911

I have a Rock Island 1911A1. For the money it's decent. It's a plain gun with no extras but for $400 it can't be beat.
IMO

Re: 1911

Ruger just came out with a 1911. A lot of gun for the money and good quality, good luck finding one though. Rock Island and Smith & Wesson are also make a nice 1911 without breaking the bank.

If it's not a colt it's just as copy.

Waterfowling success should never be measured by the weight of the strap

Re: 1911

None at all. When i first got it last year, I bought the 250 rd pack of FMJ's at Wal Mart. We shot the box in one day. Not one problem with it. I recommend this pistol if you are happy with the basics. I think they make a competition model with fiber optic sights but for recreational shooting the regular sights work fine.

Re: 1911

Yeah Triple I'm leaning towards the one you got. For $400.00 I don't think they will be beat either. Hopefully they will have a few where I'm going tomorrow. I'm headed to Olean (Whitetail World), because it's right down the street from where my rottie and I our working on his obedience and K9 training. I won't buy any hand guns in New York or any firearms for that matter. I get pretty good deals here in Pa. at one of the shops I frequent.

Re: 1911

With the Taurus you're looking at about $700. If you're willing to spend that you might as well go with the Springfield GI model. The Rock Island is a nice gun. I made the right choice when i got it.
