new gun??

I have an opportunity to buy a remington 7 ss/synthetic in 7mm saum caliber, with an original redfield 2-7 scope mounted on it with leupold mounts. The offer for it is $400.00. the issue is that the 7mm SAUM seems to be going the way of the dodo. It looks like I can still get brass for it, (little pricy, but I would only need to buy dies) but should I jump on this to add to the collection? shoulders and points real nice, the only choker is the caliber. I'm looking for either a "heck yeah, buy it", or "what are you, nuts"? It would make a nice light bear rifle, IMO

Re: new gun??

I wouldn't allow a 7mm in my house but thats a good deal price wise. I wouldnt care if you thinks its getting unpopular who cares if your planning on using it. Get a set of dies load it shoot it. I have a model 7 in a 260 very sweet little gun. I actually put it away for my grandson but you couldnt find a nicer rifle to carry in Pa. woods. Go for it!

Re: new gun??

Heck yeah, buy it. Look at it this way, the scope and mounts are prolly worth a hundred bucks. When is the next time you will see a remington model 7 in any caliber for $300?

Re: new gun??

I certainly think it is worth it to buy that gun especially if you handload. That's a pretty unpassable price on it.

Re: new gun??

I have one and it is a great shooter. For $400 you can't go wrong even if you decide to rechamber to another short action round as a donor action. IF you handload the 7SAUM can really shine. Remington just missed the boat on the short action mags but many thoughts are that the SAUM are the best of the bunch particularly if you handload. Who knows if it does go obsolete it may actually be worth something allot more years from now.

Re: new gun??

Well, I bought the rifle and now I'm having a hard time finding brass for it for a reasonable price. Might have to just suck it up.
