There is no way to tell accurately by looking at any book, most of them are rubbish. A real Fox shotgun is worth money in any condition. You need to know a few things right away. First, is it a Philadelphia gun, or a gun made by Savage in Utica, NY ? Philly guns are worth much more. Second, is it a Sterlingworth or a Graded Fox ( A<B<C< etc ? ) Third, what is the condition? This is the difference between hundreds and thousands in a graded gun. Sterlingworths were the economy, working mans version, not highly collectible, but some variations are. If you could post the first four digits of the serial number, what gauge it is, and a picture or two it is easily solved...
