139 SST 7mm Rem Mag

Could use a suggestion for a handload using IMR 4350 and 139gr SST bullets. I tried 58.0 grains and couldn't get consistent grouping. I'm shooting a Ruger M77.

IMR 4350 is a great powder. I have had better luck with IMR 4831 in the 7mm Rem mag.

Ken, have a friend not the best on reloading was loading his girl friends 280 with the 139 and having trouble horizintal strung using imr 4350. Have any data? i tought of giving him some R-22 for a try but strung that way to me sounds like bullet may not work in that gun.

I use H-4831-sc in my 280. 56.5 grains with a 139gr sst or interbond with a CCI lg rifle primer. This load works very well in both my 280's.

Alrighty then!

Could it be a rifle related problem? How does the rifle shoot with other factory ammo or reloads?

Re: 139 SST 7mm Rem Mag

Im not really sure my friend is not the best at reloading and fine tuning plus we live 35 miles away but i want to help him out. Shooting and loading is my hobby i like the challenge at times to take something like this and tweek to a fine rifle. But sometimes its hard to explain, proper barrel cleaning, seating depth, proper case prep, correct powder of what gun likes, etc. And most of all toss that darn manual of what is supposed to be the accurate load. Then you know everyone is a sharpshooter especially shooting off the hood of there trucks. My friend isnt that bad but i think you know where im coming from.

I have a Rem.700 in 7mmMag. In THIS rifle, 66.5gr of IMR4831 under a Hornady 139gr Spire Point is very accurate. I have not tried the SST's but if I did, I'd start @63gr and work my way up.

Re: 139 SST 7mm Rem Mag

My rifle loves IMR 7828 from 150's and up. I generally do not load 140's in my 7mag.

Couple years ago, I got an itch to create a 7Mag load that mocked at .280. I came up with 140gr. Sierra Pro Hunters over a pile IMR4350. Not sure the velocity, but I should have been around 3050-3100.

Slow is smooth, smooth is fast, fast is deadly
