Major scope malfunction 1 week before opener

I was sighting in the ol' .308 tonight and started at 50 yards. I got everything settled in and decides to move to 100 yards. After my first shot there was nothing on the paper so I decided to shot another and see what happens. Upon looking into the scope the cross hairs rotated 45 degrees exact opposite of what they should be. I walked down to the paper and nothing was to be found. Is there anybody who can help me out or do I have to buy a whole other scope?

If your scope rings are tight, there is no reason for that kind of malfunction. I would ditch it and buy a new one. A better model at that. There is nothing worse than not having confidence in your equipment....

Send it back to the manufacturer. Give them a call, I had problems with a Simmons scope (sent it in and got a new one)that I had for about 10 years.

So don't throw anything away till you talk to the maker.

Re: Major scope malfunction 1 week before opener

With the opener only days away, the time is now to top that rifle with a new scope and spend some time at the range.

Follow up with the mnaufacturer at some point as you may get it repaired or replaced for free.

I support all hunters, regardless of weapon or technique!

what dpms said.
even if you just buy a cheap backup scope, its better than not having a gun on opening day.

I have a couple cheapies laying around here your welcome to borrow until you get yours repaired or replaced. I know there is a Tasco 3-9 and a Simmons 4-12. They're not a $2300 March, but will get ya through the season.

Let me know, shoot me a PM.

Re: Major scope malfunction 1 week before opener

You may have broke loose the erectors and the reason often is misaligned rings bending the tube. Before you tighten in another scope be sure the rings are aligned, check the current scope for deep ring marks.
