270 sight in

i bought a savage 110 in 270 from a member here this past summer. he said it was never shot and didn't know if it was even bore sighted. i told him when i shot it i'd post the sight in, well, finally got it to a range yesterday as time was starting to run out. run the bore sight and sent one. well wasn't even on paper. bore sighted it again and sent one. then started dialing it in. after shot 2 we had some problems. went from 4 inches high to 8 inches high with 2 rounds to make sure it wasn't me. turning the crosshairs to go down seems to move the scope up! so i start working my way back down. finally!

note, the other 3 shots arn't mine. shot off lead sled

if you bought it, a trucker brought it

Re: 270 sight in

Hope you fired a few more rounds after the one by the bull. Always good to confirm that scope is really ready.

Re: 270 sight in

I agree that you should fire a few more rounds to confirm.

I also feel that at 100 yd zero is a waste of the .270's trajectory. Unless you're doping your scope or using a BDC type reticle that starts at 100 (most BDC's would use a 200 yd zero with the .270), you can do better by moving your POI up to +2.5" @ 100 yds.

With a 100 yd zero, you'll be +/- 3" out to 200 yds.

With a zero at approx. 250 yds (2.5" high at 100 yds), you'll be +/- 3" out to 300 yds.

That's the way they work. Lowering the crosshairs raises the bore and therefore the impact. Not many shooters realize how the internals work on the scope until they look thru it will making the adjustments.

Comb, those 110's like the core-lokt 150 sp. Give them a try sometime!

Re: 270 sight in

PA/MDbowhunter is correct, but that is confusing to some people. If you put your rifle on a solid rest, and have someone turn the elevation adjustment down, you will see the crosshair move up. And the same holds for windage adjustments. But if you follow the movement mark (usually an arrow) under the scope cap, up will cause the scope center to rise. All scopes have prisms that turn the image upside down at the large objective end and reverse it before it reaches the eyepiece.

I suggest the OP try another scope.

Re: 270 sight in

Now what you need to do is set out a clean target and fire a three shot group. One shot tells you very little. I actually prefer five shot groups myself.

Re: 270 sight in

Some of the more affluent folks on here can afford to shoot 'five shot groups'...lol
