Savage .17hmr Thumbhole Stock

I am looking at getting a .17hmr rifle and really like shooting thumbhole stocks. I see Savage has one 93R17BTVS listed here: Savage 93r17btvs

Does anyone have any expiriece with this model? Are there any other manufactured models similar to this out there? I found a Marlin model Xt-17VSLB, but can't find anyone who actually stocks them. Any input is appreciated.
Also, what are good scopes that match these rifles? I see the BSA Sweet 17's but they seem very hit or miss on reviews. I will be using it for mostly squirrels and groundhogs around our farm.

Re: Savage .17hmr Thumbhole Stock

DicksSportingGoods had them on sale this week so I picked one up for my Christmas gift from the wife :-). Anyways, now I am on the hunt for a scope to put on it. Any suggestions from anyone with a similar model or another 17 hmr shooter? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I put a BSA sweet 17 hunting-target scope 6x18x40 side paralliax this scope has multi grain turrets for 17 & 20 grain bullets with zero reset. The scope is very clear and tracks very well.

Re: Savage .17hmr Thumbhole Stock

love the bsa sweet 17. on a non windy day a 200yd soda can shot is easy. I shot a spray paint can lid at 300 just by using the predetermined yardage adjustments. Dont ever put oil on the scope i made that mistake and it messed up the rubber coating. I dont think you would be disappointed.
Only bad thing is that it isnt stainless.

Anyone ever use a Mueller brand scope? I am seeing great reviews online for use on rimfires but never heard of them myself before? Looking preferably for a silver color like this : Mueller APV

I am not a fan of thumbhole stocks but held a savage 17 thumb and it felt really nice
