Shortest shot on a Whitetail in Pa?

To kind of offset the other thread on the firearm forum, what's the shortest shot you made on a Pa. Whitetail? Mine was about 20 FEET. I was near a blowdown and heard several Deer running in my direction I kneeled down as the Deer run up and stopped on the other side of the blowdown. The first one, a Doe walked out right in front of me. I downed her with a single shot from my Weatherby Mark V Lightweight/Stainless in 240 Weatherby Mag. Needless to say she dropped instantly. So let's hear from you what's your shortest shot?

I shot a small buck in the spine virtually straight down. I guess the distance would have been about 15-20 feet, but the horizontal distance was less than 10. A 125 gr. bullet out of a .30-06 at that distance makes a mess. I'm now a little older and wiser and have since changed by bullet selection.

That's the closest with a rifle. I've shot a couple that were even closer in archery season.

Re: Shortest shot on a Whitetail in Pa?

mine was my 2nd deer..i will never forget it..dad and i were walking down the mountain opening day..late afternoon and it was pouring and nasty out..we both had enough and were walking to the truck..i was 13..it was the year JRs could shoot doe on the opener and saturdays..

i spotted something running straight at us down at the base of the mountain..coyote! deer! coyote! deer! dad was more interested in seeing what it was..i thought enough to get behind a big oak and drop to my knee..dad got behind me and we both seen it was a deer coming..

it was within FEET of my muzzle..it was within 5-6ft..it heard the safety click off and it froze and the Mauser barked...

i have NO idea how but that turned out to be one of my farthest track jobs with a rifle hit ive ever seen...3008 point blank range..exit was graphic..i could put my hand in it..that shoulder was GONE..heart and lungs were gone..most fell out of the exit hole...but it went over 100yds and ran into a boulder where we found it..ran that much closer to the truck lol....turned out to be a button buck..

had 2 flintlock kills drop within feet of my barrel too...they were both running right at me..shot em in the center of the white patch..drops em dead every time..patch hit both of them and they ended up within feet.. "shot in self defense..." lol

My father killed the biggest buck we have ever got at 10 feet. He stepped up onto a boulder, it was laying on other side shot just as it stood up. 14pt 160" 300 weatherby was plenty

Closest was about 20 feet. Spike ran up and stopped in front of me. Horns were about 6" and hidden by his ears so I thought it was a doe. Snapped up my .300 WM and nailed him in the neck.

About 10 feet, the deer was on one side of a creek and I on the other, when I shot it it jumped the creek and fell next to me.

When you are up to your butt in alligators, it is hard to remember your intent was to drain the swamp. Stay focused!
