suggestions

My sportsmens club gives away a gun each year to a lucky member who has participated in some what throughout the year.

I've been ask to gather ideas for next year's gun. My budget is $750, and likely should include a scope (I know ). We have a number of local dealers who will get close to or at cost for us.

In any case the members are traditionalist - they like wood, preferably shiny. The idea is to have a gun worthy enough to get more people to participate.

Last year was a ruger hawkeye topped with a redfield revolution -- all american outfit.

This year, it should be different, but choices in this range are few.

Let's see some ideas!!! and thanks for your help

Re: suggestions

Marlin 444 or an XLR in 45/70 or .444 marlin. Add scope of choice. My first choice was the Hawkeye in 7mm/08 until I read your post again.

Re: suggestions

The Ruger Hawkeye with the Redfield sounds perfect. The only way to follow that one up is with a Tikka T3 Lite and a Bushnell Elite.

Re: suggestions

Traditional? What about a flintlock?Maybe a handgun capable of dropping a deer or bear would impress some members to step up.I wish my club did that.I just help because I want to.I would take a free gun though.

Bob Seger,till it shines.

Re: suggestions

I would go with a rifle that almost all shooters like to have. A good high quality 22 bolt action rifle. Tthere are several good grade models in your price range. Even with a decent quality 4X scope on top of the rifle. Stay with a good quality American made 22 bolt rifle. Tom.

Re: suggestions

keep em coming folks. I'm going to look at tikka, however this is steel mill remnant country.

Diablo, the program just started last year and as officers we weren't organized enough to get full use of the program. We gave a chance away for attending meetings, doing any type of work, or just anything. One ticket in the basket for each thing, then on election night we give away a gun.

Hogghead, we have an active CMP sporter program in the club - - more cz's and what not than you can shake a stick at. That's a good thought.

Re: suggestions

You could probably get a weatherby vanguard with the fancy stock and put a redfield revolution scope on it for around that kind of money. I think Bud's gun shop has them at a good price.

Callin all trucks this here's the Duck, we about to go hunting bear!

Re: suggestions

Grice's has some good deals right now. Weatherby's w/scope's. I would think a .243, or 7mm-08 would be a good caliber.
