Arisaka Type 99

I have a co-worker who recently came across a WWII rifle his father brought back from the Pacific. It is kind of beat up, but he wants to 1) know if it is worth anything, and 2) who might be interested in it. I told him I would check on a couple of forums.

It is an Arisaka Type 99, 7.7x58, 4 digit serial number, bolt has matching last three of the serial number, and still has the "Emperors mum" on the top front of the receiver. Although the wood is a bit beat up, the barrel is still pristine, and the action works well.

If anybody can assist, please PM me.

These rifles have been climbing in price for awhile now to the right collectors. Especially with the flower still intact on the receiver, the stocks have never been known to stand up to much abuse, and good ones show up on ebay and go for more money than most people are willing to pay. Ammunition is available from Norma and Hornady. Most Arisakas have been customized in some fashion and still make a good deer rifle. There are more than a few websites you can visit to find out more information on these rifles and a couple of good books.
