My father-in-law passed away last month of cancer he fought for alittle over a year. God rest his soul, just a great guy and outdoorsman.
Well I got his Remington 700 BDL 30-06. I took and had a Scorpion 4x12 scope put on it. Took it to the range today and WOW what a gun. I never shot an “06” before and I was impressed. I sighted about 1.5” high at 100yrds. with Federal soft nose 150 grains,I had 4 shots in a quarter sized hole. I guess that should be good enough.. love this gun, thank you father-in-law George Trick, god bless ya.
My ‘06 was my grandfather’s rifle, also shoots great like yours does. Nothing in my life has more sentimental value, I would not sell that gun for all the money in the world. I’m sorry for the loss of your FIL. I know when I’m in the woods with my 06, grandpa is there with me. I’m sure it will be the same for you.
I hunted for several years with my grandfather’s Remington 760 in 30-06 topped with a 3-9 wide field Redfield. I took my first two bucks and several does while my brother took his largest buck and several does with it. As a family tradition It always goes up to camp with us in deer season and I still take it hunting from time to time.
There is just something special about hunting with the firearm of a loved one who has passed.
my wife used that 30-30 of her fathers and took a dandy 10 pointer on the first monday, right around 120 or 130 yards..double lung and clipped the heart her very first buck too!
