I handload for a 6.5x55 Swede shooting from a modern action Savage with a Shilen match barrel. It's just as, if not more accurate than an old friend of mine's 6.5 Creedmore. We use the same powder, powder charge, and bullet. Velocity and accuracy are the same. But the 6.5x55 cartridge is well over 100 years old.
I'm in the "I don't love it or don't hate it". If I found a rifle I absolutely loved in 6.5 Creedmoor, I'd buy it. I would probably take a 7mm-08 over it for a dedicated hunting rifle if I had the choice.
For years I really wanted a full stocked deer rifle in the 6.5. If the Creedmoor would of been available back when I was in the market.....not sure if I woulda ended up with a 6.5X55 Swede or not?? See no reason to change as my CZ 550FS is by far the best hunting rifle I ever carried in the PA deer woods in my 50 plus years hunting... plus purdy to look at to boot!!
