1922 oviedo mauser

recently got a 1893 spanish mauser(1922) in 7x57. the stock is an unfinished(80-85% complete), barrel is cut to 21" and the bore is a mess. unmatching serial #, there is no rear or front sight. about all i can say good is the trigger works. my gunsmith will determine if it is safe or not. if not, oh well, i spent $80. it will be pieced out .

if yes, then the gunsmith will d&t it for a scope, bend the bolt, do a two position safety, replace the trigger to something like timney or such and rebarrel the action. the stock, i don't know about it. maybe it will stay, maybe it not.

since i done a 7x57(98 mauser/20" douglas) years ago(i gave to my son),i think it will be a 257 roberts. i'll use it for whitetails(about 150lbs or so) only. i won't be taking my shots long range, 300 yards and under. most likely it will be 50 yards and under in brush that i hunt. i have a 9.3x57, 444 marlin, 45-70 and a 500 linebaugh rifles. i've used a 223 thru 500 linebaugh calibers and i found that a 7 mauser is the best of them. but........i wanna 257 bob!!!!

this will be next years rifle. i have too many irons in fire to do a bob right now. but i'm open to suggestions? should i do a bob or not?

I have my Dad's 1895 Chilen 7x57 Mauser that he had cut down and customized with a Fajien stock years ago. The rifle had a lot of rounds put through it so the head space had to be corrected and I had the barrel set back to fix it. Also had it recrowned, glass bedded, new trigger and saftey, I went way over budget on it but it was my Dads. Now it will put 160 grn. Sierra Game King bullets in a 3/4 inch group at 100 yards with my hand loads. Good luck with yours.

Iím totally illiterate when it comes to gunsmithing. So bear with me. Two questions....What is a bob?. #2 ...After making the changes you mentioned, what are you actually using from your original rifle?

The 25 Bob is the .257 Roberts. An original wildcat cartridge developed by Ned Roberts. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.257_Roberts

mine will still be a 1893 mauser action(made in spain in 1922). bigbrownie is a 1895 mauser action.

i also have a 1898 mauser action(made in germany in 1944) in 8x57. the barrel is trashed, no rifling 4" from the muzzle.

i also have a husqvarna m46(made in sweden in 1936) in 9.3x57. its a 1896? mauser. everything is original.

i also had a 1898 mauser(made in 1951) in 7x57. i gave it to my son years ago. its a timney trigger and a 20" douglas barrel and a fajen stock.

I have an old 98 Mauser 8mm in the gun safe. I havenít shot it for 45 years. Didnít know folks were reworking those things into all these other calibers.

It would take a talented gunsmith to do that kind of work. In my neck of the woods, I canít find anyone competent enough to strip and clean my BLRs. Iím sure thereís folks who specialize Mauser actions, just like thereís guys who build big block Chevy engines.

ever since my gunsmith died(he was 5 minutes away) and the other gunsmith retired(he was 8 minutes away), the true gunsmithing died in my area. i'm going to with GOSTOMSKIíS. he's about an hour away. i'll give him a try. i have to d&t a husqvarna m46 for a scope. it will need a bolt bent and safety put on. if he can do that well, then the 93 mauser will go to him.
