ruger vs. weatherby

i won a ruger american 243 at a gun bash. i can spend extra money and upgrade. anyhow, ive had my eye on a weatherby vanguard in first lite camo in either a 300 win mag or 300 wby mag. i have a ruger american in go wild camo in 450 bushmaster caliber. i am kicking around paying a little more and getting another ruger in 300 win mag in go wild camo or paying even more for the weatherby. any thoughts ? i have a vanguard in 6.5 creedmoor and had a vanguard in 300 win mag that i sold. both were shooters.

I would go Weatherby/Howa. I would even go with the 300 Weatherby Mag.

Another vote for the vanguard, either 300 would be good.

Have you handled the Weatherby? When I was buying my 7mm Rem Mag, I checked out the Weatherby Vanguard, Tikka T3, & TC Venture. I ended up with the TC Venture. I really liked the feel when I shouldered it and the price. The Tikka was the winner for feel, but the price difference was greater than the feel The Weatherby just didn't feel good to me. The fore end seemed narrow/thin to me. I also have a Ruger M77 MKII in 308 and No.1 in 7mm Rem Mag and love them both. So, I would say go shoulder your candidates and decide from there. Good luck!

What to you want in a up grade? Finish, checkering, custom look? Why not take the extra $$ and buy another gun or buy some more gun bash tickets and win another one? You probably are not going to improve much if any on accuracy. I have had a few rifles and my Ruger 270 and 243 will shot with the best of them. Two ground hogs over 425 yards.....A few more close to that....
