Recommend me a scope for Remington sps 308

My son got a new Remington 700 sps as a birthday gift and I’m looking for ideas to scope it. Gun will be a woods hunting rifle only not a long ranger shooter. Trying to keep it under $200. Looking for 4-12 magnification possibly 3-9. Outside of a leupold freedom anyone have any info on some good quality glass? I was considering trying one of those vortex scopes but after seeing at cableas numerous times over the years the bargain cave being packed with them as returns, that makes me not want to try one. Was also thinking about a Bushnell trophy xlt. Had those on a few rifles in the past and thought they were a really decent scope for their price point of finding them for under $80. Open to trying pretty much anything. Thanks in advance for the info.

On this forum there is a Leupold Fire Dot 2x7 scope for a very reasonable price. I love this scope on my woods deer rifle. Might be a good purchase for you. I recommend it highly.

Check some of the deals at CameraLand (they advertise on this forum).

I think they have some Meopta scopes around 299, which is higher than 200 of course, but they are superb scopes.

I put a compact leupold 2-7 on my son's Mod 7, 7mm-08. Its a great scope. I got it on Optics planet on sale for $199

I don't have ducks. I don't have rows. I have squirrels. And they're drunk.

If itís a woods rife go with nothing higher than a 2x7. Leupold would be my choice. eBay usually has some good prices, if thereís something wrong with it, send it to Leupold, theyíll either fix it or send you a new one, no charge. Just make sure itís American made , not a jap clone.

If it is a woods rifle you don't need high power. Take a look at this:

Can’t go wrong with a redfield, they use Leupold glass I believe. I have one on my 300 wsm, and it has done me well from Wyoming to PA.

Camp life,it don't get much better!

Vortex crossfire II 4-12x44

no questions, lifetime warranty and under $200.00

you can get custom turrets for it, it has a BDC reticle, a lot of custom touches and a lifetime warranty for far less than a leupold...just my opinion. i own two of them and have never had a problem.

one is on my Rem 700 in 30-06 and the other is on my wifes bolt action 30-30
