The butt stock had so little drop, that you couldn't get on the iron sights unless your head was that of a munchkin!

I've since restocked mine with an AR style collapsible stock that works like a charm. But I was just wondering if your's came the same way.

I whole Wholeheartedly agree, your wood looks 100% better!!
No, the synthetic stock is just about perfect with the open sights.

Just got off the phone with Remington.

Ordered the shorter bolt, washer, lock washer and butt plate insert.

Also, ordered two more sets of everything, so all 3 of my Whelen carbines will have both wood and synthetic stocks and the proper bolts/washers to make for easy swapping if desired.

Hhhmmmmm, I just might have to do that to mine. Extra trip and cost to the smith though to get shorter LOP.

If you just go with the plastic butt plate on the wood stock it would be 1/2 shorter than the synthetic with recoil pad.

Good to know. I usually like a pad for when I have the gun standing up, and obviously some recoil dampening, but not worried about that too much, been shooting a whelen for several years. Wonder if I can get a higher grade of wood, yours is a nice one though. Life is too short to hunt with ugly guns!

Don' t know if you can get a higher grade stock.

Been shooting deer with the Whelen since 04. Have settled on the Federal Trophy Bonded Bear Claw 225 as my usual hunting load, but have had good success with Rem. CorLokt in 200 and 250 grains. Now it looks like they have discontinued making the Federals.

I too have have one from the 90s (7600 in 35 Whelen) and mine came with that basic hard plastic butt plate. Yeah, shooting from the bench is no fun, but like everyone says, never bothered me one bit in the field.

BTW - 35s are great!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have no less than 4 of them in 3 different cartridges. If I ever find one in 35 Norma, I'd be hard pressed not to add another. Don't have one in 350 Remington either....hmmm.............I got a problem!

Got the other stocks today and put everything together. Went together real easy and fit was perfect. A little oil, into gun socks and into the safe they go.

Also, made an unexpected purchase of a 760,308 with a Japanese Tasco 3x9 in very nice condition. Couldn't pass it up.

Got the 308, with 4 boxes of Corelokts, and two mags for 250. I thought that was a fair price...
