Why not centerfire for varmit in Special Regs?
In a state as unfriendly to firearm owners and hunters alike as New Jersey is, why do they allow any centerfire caliber using a bullet of 100grs or less for varmit hunting Statewide (even Jersey recognizes groundhog and coyote as varmit), even though they prohibit rifles for use deer hunting?
Surely New Jersey would jump on banning anything they could if the slightest hint of a public safety threat was detected. Yet We, in Pennsylvania allow rifles in most of the state for everything, yet in Special Regs, most of which is less populated than areas of New Jersey,WE limit varmit to rimfire only. Anywhere hunting is permitted in the Garden State are rifle areas for varmit.
I love Pa, and I consider us reasonable in most of our endeavors where firearms and hunting are concerned, but why are WE so backward on this one? If the guys in Jersey havent had any dangerous events with rifles on groundhogs, (Im sure every news station would have exploited it), why do they decline to allow the great hunters in the Commonwealth the same oppurtunity?
Remember.... they're full time deer......we're part time hunters!
