New Henry 45-70

Got my rifle today! Henry 45-70. Thing is beautiful. Very nice fit and finish. Put a Leupold VXIII, 1.5-5 on it. Will shoot it next week. Going to try the Hornady Lever Revolution 325 grain bullets.

Nice rifle! I've got one in a Golden Boy with octagon barrel. Have it set up with a skinner site.

That's very nice looking!! If I had it I'd likely scratch it up on my first outing!!!

Is the receiver steel? Or brass?

Several years ago I purchased a new Marlin 1895XLR 45-70. I've had several hunts with it and it's just a bang-flop cartridge on deer. I load my own and shoot a 405gr. lead with 40gr. RL7. Recoil is more like a heavy push than a sharp jab.
