I bought a Ruger 10/22 on line at Cabelas for a great price on sale and I picked it up at the store. Wasn't really any problem. If you pick one out at the counter they send you to the back to do the paper work.

If you are going to make a trip I'd call ahead. On line they email you to let you know it's in.

I have purchased a rifle at the Hamburg store. I guess it depends on when you go, but expect a wait. They do run sales, but expect that a good sale will also increase business. Their process seems to be slow, lots of people involved, extra paperwork, etc... Certainly not as quick as a local gun shop. It couldn't hurt to call ahead. I think that you can also order guns online now and pick them up in the store. So you know that it's going to be there. That might cut down on some of the wait, I don't know.

This is just my experience, but I've heard others tell similar stories: 2 years ago I was looking to buy a varmint rifle they had on sale. I was there on a Friday afternoon, and I had to take a number (like at the deli counter) to get a salesperson to help me. Wait was roughly 30mins. I went in wanting the Remington 700 ADL, but while I was there I decided to also look at a Savage 12FV that was also on sale. I ended up liking the Savage better and it was less expensive so I bought it. Salesman hands you over to another person that conducts the background check and such. Fill out your information on a computer and then you wait for them to run your background check. There was a few people "on line" in front of me so I waited. Long story short, it took them over an hour to do background, paperwork, remove gun from inventory, etc... So from the time I walked in the door to walking out with my gun was roughly 2 hours. Once again, this was a Friday afternoon(roughly 2pm). I would not even try to go on a weekend, but that's just me.

When do they have sales and what was the sale ? Was it worth it ? Do I have to buy the rifle in hamburg or can I go to wheeling which I prefer ?

You can go to whatever store you want. My only caution is that you cannot purchase handguns in WV as a PA resident unless you have the gun sent to a dealer in PA(which will increase your cost in terms of transfer fees). You can buy a rifle or shotgun at Wheeling with no problem.

The sale I went for was pretty good in my opinion. I purchased my Savage 12FV(heavy barrel varmint rifle) in .308 for $320. I've heard of other similar sales + rebates on that rifle where the price was even less. Keep in mind that this rifle I'm talking about is a Cabelas exclusive, meaning that it's only available at Cabelas. I guess it depends on what you're buying. For what it's worth, they seem to have good sales in Jan.-Feb. If you don't get them already, sign up to get their flyers in the mail.

This is just my opinion also, but I feel that the crowds and wait times at the Wheeling store are probably less than Hamburg. I've not purchased a gun at Wheeling, but I have sold a few that went smooth.

I've bought a few there over the years. I live too close to that Hamburg store.

I've had easy to horrible transactions, and everywhere in between.

The people on their side of the counter vary greatly. Some know what they're doing....others, not so much.

Try to go mid week if possible. Plan on being there at least an hour even if you know what you're buying when you walk up to the counter.

I agree. Live less than a mile from Cabela's and there at least once a week. Regarding new guns typically they are high but sometimes can't beat there sales. If they advertise a gun I'd call first. Have a friend that works there and he told me they will sometimes only have a couple of guns.

And if you make a deal in the gun library, complete it then and there. DO NOT leave and come back later. It won't go well.

Also- they take your info for your 4473 and then take a good hour or so....or more...to process it and call you back to get your firearm.

In that time, you cannot leave the store or they make you start over.

I went to the restaurant, bought a small fountain drink, and milked them for all I could while I played games on my phone. lol

Bought a CZ 22 at the Hamburg store a few years ago. it was back when they had those Cabela's Instore Bucks deals which gave me $50 off purchase. Transaction was smooth and quickly completed.

If you see the gun you want online, you are given an option to check the store's inventory/availability. You can check it against multiple Cabela's stores. I have purchased a few guns there and the process is from slow to fast. One time it took 2 hours to have a scope mounted. I'd never go on a weekend nor the week between Christmas and New Years. Go back January 2nd and the store looks deserted. Go get a fudge sample and buy a drink at the restaurant and you can sit there all day.

The spirit of our day is a soft acceptance of everything—except deep conviction in anything.
