Experiences with the 444?

Anybody have any experiences with the 444 Marlin? I've always been fascinated by them but never had one.

Fun caliber. Meets the "barrel big enough for a mouse to run down" standard.

Have a Marlin 444ss with a 1x4 Leupold. Very accurate with Rem Corlokt 240 or Hornady Super Performance 265 grain. Shot both deer below with 240 grain Remington CorLokt's.

First was up in Manitoba. 200 lb dressed buck shot at 20 yards behind shoulder. Full penetration. He stumbled about 15 feet and went down.

2nd was in Saskatchewan. Big buck 240 # dressed buck. 80 yard shot behind the shoulder, full penetration. He went about 50 yards and went down.

Sighted a few inches high at 100 with the Hornady, will put you in the vitals at 200.

Have not had it out in a few years. Glad you posted this, might have to get it out of the safe.

Thinking the same about my 45-70 Guide gun. The poor thing has not had much love in recent years. Too many guns, two few tags!

They've always intrigued me too, just not enough to seek one out I guess. But if I ran across a great deal, I would probably take it.

I just got one a few months ago. Really handy little rifle with a big punch! Shooting the 325 grain Lever Revolution.

Nice looking rifle. I have a few friends who have them and I always wanted one but cannot justify the cost. But maybe....

buddy of mine had one .
never seen him take a deer with it , but I have seen him fell small trees with one while trying to shoot a deer..
i'm talking an explosion of wood pulp and tiimmmberrr….
not only did I think it was hilarious ,I think the deer did too because it hung out long enough for him to shoot again and bag a second larger tree.

the spot is forever known as calvins clearcut
