Retirement gift to myself
I recently picked up a Ruger American ranch rifle in .450 Bushmaster to take the place of my 45/70 GG I had to sell to make some truck repairs. I topped it with a Leupold 1.5-4X20 with a "Pig-Plex" reticle. The rifle weighs in at 5.5 pounds nekkid and is around 35" long with the muzzle break attached. I sighted it in using 250 grain Hornady Black ammo and you can tell by the target, the thing will shoot. This was my final 3 shots at 100 yards after getting it zero'ed in. I didn't have muffs on when I sighted it in but had good ear plugs in. Even with those, the blast from that muzzle break had my ears ringing steady for about a week and on and off for a couple weeks following. That muzzle break will be coming off and the thread cap put on in its place. Recoil was a little stout but not nearly as punishing as the 45/70. I'm looking forward to carrying this rifle this year and I hope to take a bear with it. If not, maybe I'll get a deer with it.
I don't have ducks. I don't have rows. I have squirrels. And they're drunk.
