Re: weatherby vanguard

I bought a NIB Vanguard here on HPA for $300 two years ago..Never had any great desire to own a 257 WBY. but I bought it anyhow and it turned out to be one of my most accurate rifles ever.Only drawback is the price of brass..Beyond outrageous!

Re: weatherby vanguard

I have a few of the vanguards. I don't own a 257 but the ones I do have are very accurate. I swap the triggers out with timney triggers and all of mine are sub MOA.with the older Howas and Vanguards that seemed to me to be the weakest point.

Re: weatherby vanguard

Can't say about the Vanguard because I have never owned one. I do have a Mark V in 257 Weatherby Mag. The cartridge is AWESOME! Power and accuracy together. I have even used mine for long range varminting a few times in addition to using it for Deer.

Re: weatherby vanguard

I have a Vanguard synthetic in 300 Wby Mag. It's awesome. Very accurate and the quality is very good. The only drawback is that it's heavy. But that's not really a bad thing for a 300 Weatherby because it reduces recoil. I'd snatch that rifle up.

Re: weatherby vanguard

I have a vanguard in 257 wby. Great gun accurate powerful not much recoil. It is a deer hammer! So good my brother borrowed it 2 years ago and took a real good buck and I haven't seen it since! He was a diehard 300 wby fan until that.

Re: weatherby vanguard

Both my older kids started with Vanguard compact .308's.

My daughter's is a bona fide 1/4 MOA shooter for 3 shots at 100 yards. Not a typo. The boy's shoots sub-MOA. Just not 1/4. Sister has a Synthetic .300 Win Mag and it shoots sub MOA.

Buy it !!

P.S. Weatherby brass IS expensive. But it is top quality stuff and will last 2-3X longer than Winchester and Remington type quality brass.

Re: weatherby vanguard

257 wea is based upon the 300 H&H case. It is similiar to the 25-06, figure about 200 fps faster with the lighter bullets (less than 100 grain). If you want to shoot the heavier bullets like the 117 or 120gr, then figure your get an extra 300 fps over the 25-06.

Most 257 wea are accurate, I reload for the Mark V a tack driver; so I can't speak for the Vanguard, except the ones I've shot in other cartridges seem to have terible triggers.
