6.5 this and 6.5 that and 6.5 this!!!

reading all the hunting magazines...Wow they are really pushing the 264 Cal or the 6.5 for 2011. 6.5 Swedes, and 6.5 X 284, 260 Win, and 6.5 BR 6.5 Lapua.

Figure? .264 right in between the .243 and the .270.
I have been obsessed with owning a 6.5 Swede..Probably get a barrel someday from E. A. Brown..www.eabco.com. however gee E. A. brown sells most of the 6.5 including the 260 Win in the .264
Don't know why people I know don't use the 6.5? Maybe they like to brag and say I have a 7MM or an 8MM..They might just embarassed to admit around everyone that they have a 6.5MM!!!!!

Re: 6.5 this and 6.5 that and 6.5 this!!!

Hard to figure why the 6.5 never really took a strong hold in the USA. It's a lot more popular diameter in Europe than here. May have a lot to do with the timing of some of the releases (.264 Win and 6.5 Rem). Could be Americans' resistance to (most) metric stuff. Dunno. The 6.5 family has got some real good members in it, capable from vermin to elk (except in PA where, evidently, they won't kill an elk) and moose.

That being said........ I don't own a 6.5 bore of any flavor, either. Always wanted to build a heavy barrel 6.5 STW for some 1000 yard play. Never did.

Re: 6.5 this and 6.5 that and 6.5 this!!!

I have a 260 rem ona 700 action, it is absolutely a Pa. anything round if loaded right, I have shot it to 500 yards and it is very accurate. I know its mostly the rifle not the caliber but for long range shots it is fogiving and has no recoil. I also have a 6.5 rem mag in a custom encore barrel from MGM and I did whack a deer with it, just like the 260, it is a deer killer with a 120gr bullet. I never needed anything heavier since I also have a 350 rem mag for bears.

It may be a poor choice of words but I am smart enough to understand what you meant.

Re: 6.5 this and 6.5 that and 6.5 this!!!

An accurate rifle in the hands of a marksman is the bottom line. I makes no real differnce in terms of caliber, up to a point, when accuracy is locked up with capability and proficency. All this nonsense about 30/06 vs 270 vs 30/30 vs 300 wsm and so on is baloney that feeds the wonks who make a living writing articles for hunting magazines.

Good night Chesty, wherever you are......

Re: 6.5 this and 6.5 that and 6.5 this!!!

You ever read articles they give you a few outstanding deer calibers based on velocities...Calibers that shoot around 2800 FPS. 308 Win is one... So is the 7MM08 but so is the 6.5 Swede!!!As we know a hit in the vital will kill a deer with any caliber..
I always liked just how the 6.5 Swede bullet looked. Hey thats just how I feel.

Today, there are many .264 bullets from which to select, and that has caused an increase in the populatiry of this bore.

I feel the writers are feeding from each other. Hey, let's push this and next year it will be that. Shoot what makes you happy and you can hit with.

Re: 6.5 this and 6.5 that and 6.5 this!!!

IMO Today was your biggest word for the 6.5. Lots of nice bullets from all makers and new and improved powders is turnin heads. From my understandin 6.5 bullets are almost the perfect missile. .264 Win. did have tough time gettin over on us. Poor barrel life was one??? Powder still burnin 12" past barrel, to much case for 6.5 dia. I guess. I do think if a guy want somethin to have fun with all the new populatiry is right, a new look for TODAY...later

If you read the results from any 1000 yard matches the 6.5 bullet regardless of case behind it wins alot of matches not sure why but it does.
