time for my son's first rifle...

7 is turning 8 in sept and i'm getting his rifle this year. he has a pretty strong glasses prescription and has a very hard time using a standard scope. he's ok with irons, but i think i want to get him a red dot.
I'm stuck between a break barrel single shot, bolt single or bolt repeater. i want the ability to use 22lr, cb, short etc, and NEED a youth length stock that he'll be able to grow into. scope mounting will likely end up being a weaver rail tapped and mounted to the barrel by a gunsmith unless the screw holes exist. budget is low/light, under 200 total. suggestions?

You might want to consider getting a crickett .22 It will fit him really well at this age. You could turn around and sell it in a few years when he gets bigger, then get him a more regular size gun. I used a cricket for years coonhunting and now my son uses it. They are suprising how accurate they are for a little gun. I think they are a little over a hundred new, but not real sure on that.

A T/C hotshot would be a good starting rifle. They are right at the 200 dollar mark and are basically a smaller encore without the change bbl option.

I just picked up a Crickett 22LR (pink) at Wal-Mart for my five year old daughter. Cost $107 + tax.

The crickets are great I have my 2 cousins broke in on one and now my 4 year old son is shooting the same gun. I even play with it from time to time. With a red dot can shoot bottle caps all day at 25 yards.
