It's an excellent elk/bear rifle. Using the proper bullets, you can hunt deer with it if you wish, and you won't damage much meat. But put a light for caliber ballistic tip in it, and shoot a deer in the shoulder, and you'll waste half of your meat. Recoil isn't bad, if you're used to shooting magnums, or 3.5 inch 12 gauge loads. I'd suggest against the muzzle break. Muzzle breaks are loud, and if you hunt without ear protection while using the brake, you'll be close to deaf after a few rounds.
