I always wanted a 6.8 myself but it seems like their popularity is dropping. Can't say the 6.5 is really hugely popular either though. 300BLK seems to be the new hot thing. You loading your own? or buying ammo?

I roll my own... so, I can do either. I read a review on the ballistics and it seems neck and neck to 300, but I wont be shooting further then 150 probably.

Have you considered the 7.62x39?

I built one in 6.5 Grendel and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Mine is built for long range, not hunting. With a 26" barrel it's just too heavy to cart around. Beyond that though it is a wonderful gun/caliber. I've only been able to play out to 300 yards, but it will keep them all in a 1" circle. Unless reloading there isn't much variety out there in loaded ammo, but you load so not an issue. If only I could take it deer hunting and not just punching paper I'd be totally happy.

Remember, shoot straight and shoot often.
Good... Bad... I'm the guy with the gun.

Thanks for the info! I was thinking a 20"barrel... After reading up on it, the 6.5 may be the best choice.

Both will do very well for game...the 6.5 Grendel will give you more distance if you want to shoot longer ranges.

I've owned the 6.8SPC and the bullet choices aren't great and BC isn't on the same level as the 6.5 Grendel.

You won't need a 20" + barrel on a 6.5 Grendel...it's overkill actually as you aren't getting such a benefit of added muzzle velocity going to a 26" barrel. You are just going to go with a heavy bench rifle.

Make sure if you get a grendel that you choose SAAMI chambers vs the "type 2" chambers.

I swear so many people on this forum have a tough time with reading comprehension as the 308 comment isn't even on an AR15 platform.

you are absolutely right, people need to comprehend what they read. Since the .308 comment was mine and i guess your comment was directed at me. you might be surprised at the title of this thread

AR Build....NOT AR-15 Build so.......the .308 comment fits
