Shooting Heavy Shot out of a LEAD only Choke

My Turkey choke is stamped LEAD only. Would like to try some Heavy shot or similar.

Any dangers ?

Re: Shooting Heavy Shot out of a LEAD only Choke

i think it is dangerous...

hevi shot and steel etc is harder than lead...when the shot column hits the choke and is restricted down, something has to the case of lead, the lead will the case of hevi shot or steel etc, it may be the choke tube...

ive had good luck with a cheap undertaker hevi-shot tube..real nice patterns..and its safe..make sure its the hevi-shot model though...

hevi shot also likes a little bit less restriction than lead shot super extra full turkey chokes..

im not 100% sure its not safe...but, to me, it says lead only..i wouldnt shoot anything but lead through it..not even copper plated stuff...guns arent something to mess around with..

I've seen it shave the outside of the wad off and ram it down inbetween the back of the choke and the end of the regular barrel.. it was packed so tight in there that I thought we were going to bend the barrel getting the choke out and he was shooting hevi-shot, at least that's what he told us..
