i own a SS ruger frontier rifle in 7-08 and one in 338 fed. both set up with leupold scout scopes. they are tack drivers. they have a short LOP and are good for kids, especially with the scout scope setup. no worry about getting hit with the scope. i am 6' 1" and they fit me nice with a heavy hunting coat. the 338 fed jumps pretty good but my 14 y/o boys have no problem shooting or hunting with them. the older compact's had the skinnier barrel so i am not sure if they are as accurate. mine have the fatter barrel and laminated stocks and are very accurate. heres a pic of my boys guns along with my 450. we like the scout setups.
