Checkering/Howa

Was talking with someone from HPA the other day and they mentioned how hard it was to find someone that stil did checkering. I said I would sent them some pics of the Howa I did for myself a few years back.

Howa 1500 barreled action in 30-06
Semi inleted stock.
Skelletonize butt plate and grip cap

Enjoy!
Pappy

Looks great!

If you can find a path with no obstacles, it probably doesn't lead anywhere.

Re: Checkering/Howa

I still have a full set of Deb-Bart checkering tools, but they have not been used in about 30 years. Checkering ruined my eyes. Today, factory CNC checkering is nearly as good as hand checkering. Pappy, your work is great. How long did that take?

Very nice Pappy. Especially the skeletonized buttplate and pistol grip cap, signs of a truly nice custom rifle.

Thank you all for the complaments. You are right about the eyes as mine are not what they used to be. The total rifle took about 2 months to complete. I forgot to include that the butt plate and grip cap are cow horn that were boiled and flatened to shape. Always wanted a realy nice rifle and some may question my choice of a Howa but the price was right and its a tack driver. The down side is I wont take it out in bad weather and use my old moded 94.

Thanks again!
