New Rifle

I just inherited a new rifle and it is a Mauser .22lr. It has Mauser-Werke a.g. oberndorf a.n written on the side of it. The stamps are crown over B, crown over U, and crown over G. I am wondering about the background of this rifle like when it was made, where it was made and maybe how valuable it is, not that i am interested in selling it.

Re: New Rifle

The only fact I can tell you is that it was made in Germany. If it's stamped with Mauser-Werke ag, AG following a company's name in Germany is used like we use Co. for company or Inc. for incorporated here in the states. Sorry I can't be more help.

Re: New Rifle

According to my book( Olson) Mauser made inexpensive 22 RFs in 1923-1934 era post WWII. Unfortunately my book doesn't show any proof marks for the rimfire rifles. RF rifles post 1934 were miniaturized versions of the 98. The later RF rifles used many of the same model numbers, but ending in the "B" designation.

The trigger guard doesn't look right, but rest of the configuration appears to be a model "Ms 420", circa 1932-34 era.

There are small differences between the various models, checkered pistol grip and forend, the Mauser crest location on the buttstock, the front sling attachment, sights and etc.

Your rifle appears to the the repeater model Ms 420. It has the checkered rounded bottom pistol grip, fluted forend, elevation rear sight and stock forend sling attachment, all indications of a Ms 420. If you measure the barrel a model Ms 420 is 25.59".

Found this pic for you. I was too lazy to scan one!

Value? No clue.

Re: New Rifle

That is the gun all except for the trigger guard. That one has a magazine for 5 round and mine is single-shot only.
