Looking for an Air Rifle

I'd like to get my dad an air rifle for Xmas. Not looking for top of the line, just some he can plink with out back and maybe do some rodent control. Any recommendations? .177 or .22? Gamo, Crossman, etc? Didn't want to spend over $200.
A lot of the reviews I read said the scopes many come with are pure junk.

Stick with a m&p model 15 .22 or, they make some very quiet loads these days plus if the PGC gets around to it he can use it for small game and predator control..best money I spent in awhile..CCI quiet at 700 fps is actually quieter than some of these high powered air guns..

I don't own one but I would go with the Benjamin Trail Nitro Piston 2.I would go 22 just in case they become legal arms.Rebates on them right now and you can get a wooden stock.

Look at Pyramid arms for a large selection and good prices.

Midway has the Benjamin Trail Nitro Piston 2 $23 cheaper than Pyramid Air.In a wood stock it's only $5 cheaper than the synthetic at Pyramid. It pays to look at this time of year.
