If i mount rings on a canteliver rail do i need to align them or is that just for turn in rings? Also would it be important to lap them? 12G slug gun

Re: ring question

I have Redfield rings and scope on my 12 ga. Mossberg with cantilever rail. They fit right up. Not sure what you mean by "align them". They do not need to be lapped. Turn in rings sometimes need to be lapped, but not Burris Signature. Those have plastic inserts which eliminate the need for lapping. Remember, if you lap rings, you should expect them to stay on for a while.

Re: ring question

Barring any problems with a Weaver or Piccatinny type rail and good rings, just mount them. Such systems are pretty much "self aligning" by design.

I like steel rings for the most part, but there are lots of good choices.

My favorite are Burris Z rings.

Re: ring question

I always lap the rings. It gives you the most contact possible for holding the scope.
