Good "old" ammo prices

It breaks your heart to see the price tags on some ammo you bought 5 or so years ago .Maybe a box of shotgun shells labeled $8.99 that cost 18.99 now etc. etc.

Re: Good "old" ammo prices

I buy a certain old ammo for one of my rifles whenever I can find some. Its from the mid-sixties, and sometimes the original price is on the boxes, usually $4.99. ( Todays retail is $49.00 )

Re: Good "old" ammo prices

I worked in a sporting goods store in the mid 1970's. When we first saw a box of shells that was over $10.00 a box, we joked about who would spend that much. Two years ago, I paid $40.00 for a box of unprimed brass for my Snider and though it was a steal.

Re: Good "old" ammo prices

Its getting bad the prices just keep climbing. Get even more costly when you get into the mags and not so popular cals. 50 to 60 bucks a box when will it end.

Re: Good "old" ammo prices

I have a few boxes of old ammo. A friend gave me 2 boxes of 30/40 ammo, one an old Rem in the old style box and the other a Peters High Velocity box with inner-belted 180 gr bullets. Also have an old box of Rem. 16 ga rifled slugs, box says "New plastic" on it.

Re: Good "old" ammo prices

I was in my buddies shop one day last summer, knowing i had a 257 whby and shoot nothing but handloads he asked me to try some of the factory loads. I seen the price was someting like in the seventy dollar bracket i about had the big one. he pulled 3 out and i tried them he knew i would chrono them at same time. Actually they did well vel. was good and group was 3/4 moa which with my loads i normally get 1/2 moa depending on day. I asked him for 1 more to pull bullet and weigh powder, etc. But the bottom line seventy some dolars a box thats around 3.50 per shot.

Re: Good "old" ammo prices

I have a couple of hundred boxes of old ammo that I bought at auctions or that happened to come in box lots at farm sales ..I'd never pay todays prices!
