Winchester Mo. 12 Question

Can anyone tell me if theses guns are trapguns or deluxe feild guns? One is a Black diamond.Neither gun is stamped trap on frame.

Re: Winchester Mo. 12 Question

Well shucks, I think they are both trap guns because of the height of the rib at the action and the way it tapers toward the muzzels of the guns. But, I guess thay could be field guns that allow the shooter to "float" the target. Good looking guns - my M12 doesn't even have a rib at all.

Good night Chesty, wherever you are......

Re: Winchester Mo. 12 Question

I would say they are both trap guns . The Black Diamond were trap guns. The gun with the y Prefix was made after 64 But I would say it's still a pricey trap gun,it might be a Super pigeon grade . Sweet Guns !!!

Re: Winchester Mo. 12 Question

The rib on my BPS looks just like that and shoots completely flat, not high at all. The raised combs look like something you would find on a trap gun though.

Re: Winchester Mo. 12 Question

One is a post-64 Y Trap Model; the other is a pre 64 gun that appears to have been restocked and likely made into a trap gun....the giveaway is the center bead is not centered in the rib post....

Pigeon Grades have a Pigeon inscribed on the barrel in front of the barrel's serial number.......the Y is not a Pigeon Grade...

Re: Winchester Mo. 12 Question

The rib on my Model 12 Trap Gun is taller(looks taller) than the rib on those two shotguns. The Monte carlo on mine is the same, and the kick pad is the same. They look like a standard grade trap model to me. I will try to get pictures of mine.

Only real difference I can see is the rib(the stock is right). And I could be mistaken about that. Or the photos could be deceiving, but mine definitely looks taller to me.

Problem with Model 12's is there are tons of parted out ones out there. I know your serial #"s match. But their are other parts they cannibalize on them. Tom.
