Loading the 30-06

This year will be hunting bear with the 06. I like to hear what loads you use. Using a Mod 70 Winchester.
Thanks for your input.

I like 165gr Hornady bt's ahead of 47 gr of 4895. Never shot a bear with that load but surely wacks deer.

55.5gr IMR4350 under a Hornady 165gr GMX. Three whitetails so far, all stellar performance. Prior to that, I used 51.5gr IMR4064 under a Hornady 150gr Interlock.

180 grain sierra pro-hunters over a powder wieght which I'd have to go consult my log book on to remember.
It's a nice all around load for what I wanted.

Re: Loading the 30-06

I prefer the 200 grain Sierra bullet with a healthy dose of 4831. This is the load I use in my pump rifles for elk, bear, and whitetail. It is a bit heavy. But it flat puts them down. And my pump rifles with that bullet are extremely deadly to 300 yards with no problem. And when the bullets hits game at 300 yards it is carrying a bunch of energy, and also works fantastically at woods distance hunting as well.

The trajectory difference between a 150 and a 200 grain bullet is not that much different when hunting big game to 300 yards. And isn't that about the real limit in distance for the average guy?? Probably not even that far for the real average guy. Tom.
