A 30-30 pump ?

Was there a pump rifle chambered in a 30-30, one time or another? If so, does anyone know who manufactured them? I have heard they existed, but never seen one. Besides lever action, I have seen 30-30's in bolt's, but never in a pump action.

sure was. savage 170. made them in rifle and carbine up from late 60's or so until the early 80's. you can find them on gunbroker but decent ones are expensive even though they are kind of a low budget gun. hardwood stocks, impressed checkering, so-so blueing. kind of in the same vein as the savage/stevens 340 bolt. good utilitarian guns but not fancy. that said, i would like to have one. you used to be able to find them for $250 or so for a nice one. now its almost double that. they made them in 35 too.

They aren't super rare...Thousands of budget minded folks have them hoarded up in their closets, and now-and-then you see one in the classifieds....As mentioned above, they are low-end rifles, nothing in the category of a Remington Model 141 or even a 760 for that matter....There is a Savage 170 in our local shopper right now....$285

Re: A 30-30 pump ?

My brother had the Savage 30-30 Carbine as his first rifle. When I started hunting, it is what I started with. They held 4 rounds (3 in the forearm and 1 in the chamber). There were some issues with them wanting to jam up when working the pump, which I have heard was one of the reasons they fell out of production. The safety was a slide button on the top of the small portion of stock- lined up nice with the thumb when holding the gun in firing position. It worked equally well for both left-handed (my brother) and right-handed (myself) shooters.

I too would love to have one of these guns - it was a wonderful 'brush gun', but my nephews are now using it and my brother is not willing to part with it.

Savage , number one thing is looking to buy one is make sure it feeds and ejects.
These are known for problems in that area.

Re: A 30-30 pump ?

Being a pumpgun lover myself it would be nice to have other options than a 760/7600. Not the 357/44's that are made now by a couple companies, but a nice light short range center fire deer rifle that was designed for scope use.
